When we were in Crete, we had planned to go hiking in the famous Samaria Gorge, located in a national park on the western part of the island.  We climbed higher and higher, while taking a series of hair-raising hairpin turns. Finally, we concluded that we were lost and we realized that we could go no further.  In order to return to civilization, however, we had to cross this bridge, which gave us a bird’s-eye perspective of the gorge.
