OUR TRAVELOGUE

2008

Here is Beatrice, a black-breasted buzzard or kite, an Australian bird of prey who performs at the bird show at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo.  Known as a hawk in Australia, she demonstrates on a plaster egg to show us how she would break an emu egg in the wild.  Normally, it takes 4 to 6 throws to break the egg open. This behavior is instinctive.
