The Santorini Cable Car is one of the primary tourist attractions in Fira, the island’s capital.  The city is perched high on the edge of the an impressive cliff, at an elevation of about 800 feet, and offers a magnificent panorama over the submerged volcano.  There are many whitewashed houses in stepped streets, with blue-domed churches and sun-bathed verandas.  The narrow, winding streets are crowded  and filled with all kinds of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
